Posts: 284 12/27/2010 12:38 AM Directory Listing Pending	Tags : None I drive a 04 F-450 with a quickpick MPL, Before I drove this truck the 810 intruder and Dynamic were my trucks of choice for 12 years, now let me tell you why I think the MPL is a disappointment. tonight I hooked a 08 chevy tahoe from the rear and my lift didnt want to lift it, I have towed these before on a 810 or dynamic no problems, also this unit moves very slowly and there is no auto stop for negitive tilt it just keeps going down, (so if I have a low spoiler i cant see the under reach just the tips of the claws and they appear to be on the floor but the boom hits the front bumber) Just things I wished they improved, I'd love to buy the Elements in the near future but I want to know they will hold up to "MY" abuse! *~~Knight Wrecker Inc.~~*

The new Jerr-Dans all have the auto-stop as standard equipment. The first tow the truck did was to tow my 1/2 GMC crewcab 4x4, the 2nd tow was the new owners Expedition, the 3rd tow it did-well I won't show pictures & told the new owner that just because the unit will pick up the load, doesn't mean you should go down the road with it. I would tell you I have customers making lots of money with MPLs & no complaints, I think your older unit may have an issue with the clutch-pump or possibly in the valve body-6 year old trucks tend to do that. Maybe it's time to trade your truck in on a unit say 6 or 7 years newer????

Posts: 249 12/27/2010 9:27 PM Directory Listing Pending	Can't really tell you whats wrong, but to give you some reference I have an 09 Element and it seems to be a solid unit. picks up the the bigger conversion vans and my Tahoe with no problem whatsoever front or rear. You could have a problem in the valve body, I know there was a member on here having a similar problem on a new unit and it was some sort of valve that was partialy stopped up or screen that had worked loose. you have to remember its just line pressure and flow per minute to make a lift cylinder do its job. so any good heavy equipment mechanic should be able to help you out if you don't have a competant wrecker shop to take it too. And in some ways they are very in tune to help you out. Wish you luck....don't give up just yet, I know this is my first Jerr-Dan product and I'm keeping a list.

I'm no stranger to lifting weight with our MPL40 and the unit will exceed the F550 Ext. cab 4wd diesel chassis... I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe your having a pump problem. These units will lift without problems. I'm not sure but I think your tilt issue was addressed with the "NG" series. Thanks, Ed

Posts: 1546 12/28/2010 12:09 PM Indiana	I have owned a couple, have 1 now....never had problems such as those. The negative tilt has been addressed on the newer ones. It really hasn't been a issue with me but would be nice to have. I tend to shy away from heavy loads with mine, simply because its a short wheel base 450.....but on a 550 extended cab or longer CA id put more weight on it. Like said, have it checked (pump, valves) to make sure you don't have a hidden problem. Good luck. Jay Indiana durrstowing.com

Posts: 222 01/02/2011 2:11 PM Florida	gotta agree with the othe guys. check the pressure of the system.the element is a solid unit.i worked for the brand "d" and brand "rs"" before working for jerrdan. had a chnace to operate the element and mpl40.Like any piece os equipment they all have there quirks. but in my humble opinion as a company owner and and then later as a factory rep . jerrdan did ther homework on ther wheel lift. als o check the hyd filter,,it is the one thing often overlooked

I have to agree with Ed and the others that the Jerr Dan units look and function are far superior to the other brands on the market today, the MPL/40 is a very stout unit, Ed's got a real nice looking one!!! Posts: 1464 02/04/2011 12:53 PM Rotator Tow411 State Rep Southern California	Our company had 2 MPL-40's. The only limitation we experienced was the chassis. It lifted everything we sent it out on, but the little Ford F-550 couldn't handle the weight to tow it safely. You need to check the pump and the valves. One thing I can say that about Jerr-Dan is that they are very strong and will usually exceed the manufacturers ratings. If your isn't lifting, it has a pump or valve problem. I had many towing companies call me in the past to tow the 3/4 & 1 ton stuff because they couldn't lift it. That was when I had an 810. They all traded their trucks off, most now have 810's too.
