I am looking for ratings or some kind of spec sheet. I will get ya pics but for now all I have is a model # (I think) and a serial #. It's a Chevron
mounted on a 91' Chevy 4x4 w / 6.2L diesel. Model# S2 Serial# 10 4617. Twin line 3/8" w / sling and wheel lift. Trying to get it back on the road
and would like to know what I would be working with. Any info would help, thx!

Just a heads up, but you should probably fill out some info in your profile and maybe post an introduction in the Introductions page

What year did Chevron start using the Warn winches? I know they have been using them for years, just curious what year they started.

Man that brings back some memories. I had and 84" Chevron Rebel on a 89 Superduty with a normally aspirated 7.3 and a 5 speed. The first wrecker I
ever bought myself. One helluva heavy bed. All steal, 84", no tunnel box. It had a plastic drop in tool box like out of the back of a pick up truck. 10
Ton boom, twin 10k lb Warn winches that everyone swore I would have problems with. They were probably the best part of the truck. They were very fast and never
let me down. If memory serves me correctly, the wheel lift was 3500 lbs at extension.
$38000 brand new in December of 1988... couldn't figure out how in the world I was ever going to afford it.

call Kent at chevron next week and he can tell you the year from your serial # plate, most of the parts they can still get for you.
your profile didn't tell me where you are, but I am a chevron dealer if you need parts Phil Kavanaugh Sr. Kavanaugh's Towing Equipment Co. 1383 Belmar Dr. Louisville Ky 40213 502 4544960 |

So let me ask this, what problems were you talking about on the winches? I am told one of the winches is a big trouble maker.
I am in central AZ. The unit is missing some Chevron parts that will need to be replaced, so thanks for the numbers Phil

some people are scared of plantary winches, chevron uses warn winches and we haven't seen any problems from them

I will have to get the truck out to the yard and start winching on stuff, see if I can make it quit under normal conditions. Was talking to the owner about the
truck, told me the 4x4 always seems to go out after anyone uses it and that one of the winches gives them problems. I know there is still a plate on the winch,
will see if I can get some numbers.

About the 4x4, if you could be more specific I can ask an old owner that had one. I drove for him back in '91 to '93. It had the gasser but the front
drive axle was the pressurized gas engagement style axle. The element had to have time to warm up the gas and engage the front axle. Many were blown up because
the driver would jam it into 4wd and floor it, 30 sec to a minute later the front diff would engage. Took a while for it to cool down and disengage creating
driveline bind.
We had the 4x4 more to add FA weight than for off road follies. As far as the winches the pass side may be the problem child. Guessing by the birdnesting from winding it in no load..... Interesting info on the 4x4, will definitely have to look into that. Was told EVEY time it went out the darn thing would break. It sounds like most of the
problems is operator error, seems like most thought it was a tank and could go anywhere. Around here it's more about ground clearance than traction, except
in the snow. Lots of great info here, thanks for your responses.
