I have had a run of bad luck lately. Two claims in two weeks. And both of them were avoidable in my opinion.
1) We changed a tire on a explorer. it fell off 2 weeks later. she never bothered to take the tire in to get repaired. she was driving around on her spare tire for two weeks. now it is our fault that the tire came off.
2) winch out. vehicle on top of a rock. we pushed the bed under the tires lifted up, and backed it off the rock. Now he says we bent his rim. I say he did that when hitting the rock...but what do i know. the driver never documented the damage before or after the recovery.
In my opinion, both scenarios could have been avoided with proper documentation or a waiver.
The tire was tightened down with a impact and then double checked with a breaker bar. There was no chance the wheel was not tight. Should we have the customer sign a waiver saying they need to double check the torque on the wheel within 24 hours? or some other idea?
The second scenario just needs a pre-existing damage form to be filled out before the recovery is done.
What are some alternatives out there to prevent this fraudulent stuff from happening?
