Have you cut open the old filters to see what the filter actually looks like? If they are getting clogged in that short of time i'd definatly be looking at
the quality of fuel your suppliers are putting out.

I thought of that but we buy from the same place so i don't think thats the issue none of the other trucks have this problem.
It's easy to be hard, it's hard to be smart.

Look in your tank, is it full of rust? You should be able to get at least 10,000 miles minimum before needing to replace it, if your fueling up with decent
stuff.

most 5500 are plastic tanks unless they are step tanks

Check the rear tank at the filler neck. This is a known problem with these trucks, & the seal/gasket at the filler neck leaks dirt & water into the
tank.

i would check the fuel lines and tanks for junk in them, try flushing the line's before the filter. the rear tank seal is a big time issue check that. also
check the tank vent's if they are not open a vacuum lock can impede fuel flow. on dual tank's inside the frame rails there is only one vent and it is
on the front tank. the fuel cap's are supposed to be one way vent's but do not always work well. check all clamps and seals attached to the tanks if
they are leaking they can allow crap in.
i drive a 05 5500 with dual tanks inside the frame rail's, all factory inside the frame rail's tanks are plastic. the rear seal was missing and messed it all up, it was left off by the dealer and then the dealer damaged the sending units troubleshooting the truck and did not put the rear seal back on the rear tank. they said it was our fault when they messed it all up. basically our warranty was voided because of a dealer screw-up. i worked for Pacar in the Renton and Seattle plants for 6 years building class 6, 7, and 8 Peterbuild and Kenworth trucks. GM putt's too much authority in the hands of the dealers for warranty issues, be careful of this. a bad dealer can make warranty issues a nightmare. also some of dealers seem to ignore TSB's sent out by GM. any fuel system contamination can and will mess up the sending units and the rear to front tank transfer pump. the transfer pump will be affected if the sending units are messed up. it is controlled by the ECU and so is the dash gage. the dash gage is the average of the rear and front tank. one sending unit go's out and it is all messed up. the sending units are 40 OHM empty and 220 OHM full. if the front go's out the transfer pump will be on all the time, the rear go's out the transfer pump will not turn on. also the gage will read empty all the time if one or both sending units go out. good luck, hope this help's ya out |

We have the same problem with our 06 C-5500. But someone told us about using fuel filters with check valves in them and they work a whole better now. Now we
use WIX fuel fuel filters and they work fine. And who ever designed that location for the filter needs to be shot.

Wooo hooo I have the answer to this!!
This is actully a pretty common problem and can in turn lead to Rail Pressure codes and other issues...Even fried injectors! The Bosch CP3 Injection pump on these trucks are suction pumps. They dont have lift pumps. *Hints the primer on the filter housing* Some of the 4500 and 5500 had pumps but not all! I would install a aftermarket system (Fass , Air Dog , etc) or even just an inline pump. The problems arise when the CP3 comes under restriction from a dirt batch of fuel, It's easier to push the fuel through a dirty filter than pull it! Have you check for codes? |
