I would call that the "Near enough is good enough" approach, practised by members of Guesswork Auto's Inc...
In the UK that would have been lifted using a knuckleboom, if they were going to drag it, why not use a mid duty top boom to get the height and winch it all the way under control, driving a truck with a casualty hooked on never inspires confidence in your abilities. The slidebed could have been used as a steeper angle that may have allowed them to load it straight on once it had cleared the concrete. Lets put it this way, I wouldn't have applied that methodology with the kit they had there, they had other options. Mark |

their was a 3 axle on scene.. right at 50 seconds...
I was sure the water would take the car away.. and the deck of the truck with it..... leaving the chassis sitting their.. and if going to try something like this.. why go toward the wall... when 8 feet to the driver side of the wrecker is a slopped bank.. but they got it out........ but......... stay safe Rod |

Thats what i was thinking too....I would have never touched it with my LD for the reason that if the car had gone over the edge of that dam
The bigger wrecker or the bigger flatbed were the right choice And another thing i noticed was they were very casual about going into fast moving water forgetting our brother who was swept away last year in a similar situation I am not sure I like the premise " they got it done" I would rather see less chances taken and 45 minutes added to the bill Cheers Mat |

First and for most buddy that jumped in to the trunk should have a safety harness on.

Not sure of the heavy unit that wa there but I think a K strap thought the window and Boom out and lift. Even if it was 10 ft short of reaching it it would of
been safer I think then having the j Hook over the edge of the bed and then driving forward.
NRC are though but I think that could of been done a lot different.

i guess the heavy was there for moral support only.
yes they got the job done, but saftey was not first on thier mind. not the way i would have handled the call, however they got the job done. |

Yep..Safety must have been an after thought...I don't understand why they did not use the heavy that was on scene..

Water is very dangerous and that was a careless and reckless recovery. at what point did the bumper come off. Must have been on one of the attempts. This is
only my personal opinion and I dont intend to offend any one.. If I did then I apologize.

Wouldnt a boom truck have been better suited for the winch out, then a flat bed? Also I didnt see any lifelines, or safety harness for the drivers just
casually "without a care" climding down into the rapid water. the equipement can complete any job, although I think drivers safety should first
priority.

Yes they got the job done....but I don't think they though all the what ifs through. My biggest concern was the guy with no saftey line on. He could have
gone over into the water and drowned.

I saw a clear path just to the Left of the rear of the car right where the rollback operator was standing.. hook Minis in the rear hooks and winch it out on
the grass.. Not up over the wall... Why would you pull it up over the wall like that ... I dont know Maybe its just me but I think they could have gone the
other way with that... The guy out on a shakey latter.. no safty... Pretty crazy stuff...

I noticed a few safety concerns there for sure. Most of us look upon this with a safety concious & educated mindset. I think they could use some training!

All being said the video would not have been if the people would have been moved out of harms way. At recoveries I might be thought of as a real a--hole but I
won't engage the winch until everyone is out of a swing path. You never know what there is, that even with a good inspection, you might not be seeing.
That video could have been even worse real easy (flying busted chain link).

I have no formal training of any kind, I would not have done this recovery the way they did . Only when all other resources were exhausted would I use the
rollback., and most definatley would have approuched it differently. Just my 2 cents. thanx Ken
