Hi All … I hope you’re all having a great weekend and enjoying your time off work. I write to provide an update to the GoFundMe campaign https://www.gofundme.com/FredGriffithWalloftheFallen supporting tow operator Fred Griffith’s sons. On February 23, 2017, Fred was killed working the shoulder in San Diego by a 3x convicted DUI motorist. In this incident, Fred was simply loading at disabled commercial trash truck onto his 9055 big-rig wrecker when a DUI motorist attempted to illegally pass traffic by driving between stopped rush-hour traffic and Fred’s wrecker. This incident is another example that slow-down move-over laws failed to protect yet another tow operator selflessly servicing his community.
If you’re not familiar with this incident, here’s a link to a news video where I was interviewed:
So far, we’ve raised only $1,035 and it’s currently stalled. Only 14-individuals have generously stepped-up and donated funds to help send Fred Griffith’s sons to Chattanooga. I write to ask that, if you haven’t donated yet, there’s still plenty of time to do so. I personally say, “Thank you”, to those who’ve already donated.
Airfare alone from San Diego to Chattanooga is nearly $1,500 for all three to travel. I’m hoping to raise enough funds where Fred’s sons can go to the Wall of the Fallen and be present when their father’s name is unveiled. I’m asking for funds to cover airfare, hotel, and expenses.
When you read some of the reasons people initiate GoFundMe accounts, were’ not looking to finance a cup of coffee at Starbucks, or, to purchase tickets to San Diego’s Comic-Con. I’m not looking to finance a trip to the International Moustache Competition in Munich. If GoFundMe is successful in raising $50,000 for a dog recovering from backyard snake-bites, this fund raising campaign more importantly brings a bit of closure to Fred’s sons. For Michael, David and Joe to know that their father’s contributions and sacrifices aren’t forgotten, your donation can help provide them a place to visit their father’s memory. If you have kids of your own, think of what Fred’s sons are going through? Because theirs is an incredible story, I just can’t imagine what they’re going through?
I’d openly challenge all towers out there in tow truck land, my friends, my colleagues, tow truck companies, and everyone else with heart and understanding to please donate to this very worthy cause. Help them travel to Chattanooga. And, please share this message with all your friends, family and co-workers on social media … Let’s make this happen !!!!! Thank You. R.
