LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say a Michigan state employee driving a wrecker truck died in a crash on Interstate 96 when a tractor-trailer braked in front of him to avoid a swerving vehicle.
State police say the crash happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oakland County's Lyon Township, about 35 miles west-northwest of Detroit. The expressway has reopened after a 4-hour shutdown.
Lt. Nathaniel McQueen III says a driver lost control of a vehicle and swerved across several lanes of the westbound expressway. McQueen says the semi driver applied the brakes to avoid a collision.
The lieutenant says 42-year-old Don Seldon of Dewitt was transporting a patrol car from Oak Park to Lansing on his flatbed wrecker. McQueen says Seldon couldn't avoid striking the semi and was killed.
