Been towing 48+ years and had something happen for the first time. Had safety chain, in hard right hand turn, catch the 1/2 inch hook on the side of a HD Miller under-lift. Truck wouldn't, couldn't straighten up to get out of roadway. Luckily I was on a back street and not on a highly traveled street. Had to back up, into jackknifed position to remove from the grab hook. Also as luck would have it, the chain tightened between the back of the truck chain pocket and the under-lift, and not from the grab hook to the towed unit.
My suggestion, and what I did to remedy the situation from happening again was to cut two pieces of radiator hose (blue, 2 1/2 inch diameter) and fit over the hooks on the under-lift. Chain cannot get into crevice now, and can be removed if needed to use trailer plate.
