Posts: 327 06/15/2011 6:01 AM Rotator New Jersey	We have a 335 Peterbilt 300 HP PX 8 w/ a 10 spd transmission equipped with a 20 Ton Slider. The wheel base on the truck is 235 ". We got it use about 5 or 6 months ago and have already put 15,000 miles on it. It is small enough to get in and out of tight spots and to tow small stuff, but big enough to tow truck tractors, bigger box trucks, motor-homes etc. I don't think I have any action shots when it goes out today I will try to get some for you. The truck I am specing is 254"WB it will have an additional cab. Do you carry the NRC small L'arm kit for the cars and light trucks on it? What does the 20ton crane body and underreach weigh? Do you ever feel you need the tag axle when towing heavy loads or do you use a brake buddy? We are set on the NRC no questions, we run a 9945, 50/65, 2 Quickswaps, and 20' rollback and love each and every one of them. I figured the 20 ton would bridge between the quick swaps and the heavy iron. However don't count out a quick swap for recovery work we use them quite often and do jobs that I wonder why we have the big iron. Nick Tony's Wrecker Service, Inc. Louisville, KY

Posts: 327 06/15/2011 9:19 AM Rotator New Jersey	Sounds like the 20 will fit perfect for you then. Yes we do carry the small L arms we do not use them alot but they defiantly have their place. The crane and under lift I would say are somewhere around 11,000 - 12,000 pounds just crane and body. Only a couple time we have felt the need for the tag axle but more times than not a brake buddy is sufice and alot cheaper. As far as front axle weight and steering we have no problems at all. Posts: 2210 06/15/2011 8:07 PM WreckMaster #091409 Ontario, Canada	Here is what our 20 ton stick started out as 215WB Binder Then we added the tag Then we remounted it on a 96 International 260wb and weighs 11500 on the steers empty. The unit will still outlift the chassis, well beyond its safe tow capacity, whatever you do make the truck long and spec the front axle heavy enough to add a counter weight in the future. The tag is great but if your trucks are exempt from weight go without the tag, its a pain in the ass for recovery work IMO. We had our tag for 9 years. Here is a 20 ton unit from the Ontario tow show, the NRC dealer here has quite a few of these units out there spec'd out the same as this one right around the 255wb You cant go wrong with the 20 ton unit, you will be limited to your chassis before the NRC. We used our light duty wheel lift kit for the odd motorhome or airport bus from the rear, maybe 1 or 2 times a year but it is handy to have, make sure you get it.

Thank you for your comments. I believe a 20 ton will be a nice addition to our fleet. Looking probably in the early 2012 for in service date. We usually start pretty early when we spec and order a new truck. We have found it easier to spec a truck that we want and wait for it than to make do with stock truck. A speced truck seems more personable that we actually had a hand in what we are getting, and meets our expectations.

Hopefully a few years from now I can upgrade to a NRC, do you find the slider that much of an advantage over a fixed boom? D.

Posts: 327 06/17/2011 1:14 PM Rotator New Jersey	Our Pete is decent for power then again it's pretty flat around here.... It would be nice to have a little bit more motor but it has done everything we have asked so far. If we had to build a truck again similar to this one we probably would put and automatic in it. As for the slider end of it, We think anytime your entire mast assembly can slide we find it as one of the biggest advantages out there. In our opinion it is worth the extra money to get a slider over a fixed boom. Good Luck with your truck I'm sure it will serve you well. Our first large hydraulic was a 9945 slider, the ability to move your load laterally while not changing the height is great. When you slide back you don't loose capacity. Just imagine your past jobs and see how many times a slider would have come in handy.

Posts: 137 06/18/2011 5:12 PM	we have a 20ton slider on a peterbilt. it's our most active truck. the only thing you have to watch is when the slider is slid back that you don't crash the lift cylinder into the top of the wheel lift which could destroy the cylinder. great truck sb
