This guy bit the dust into the center divide after glancing off of another car. The driver front suspension is history and only hanging on by the strut tower (sort of) and the brake line. Where it sat I decided to sling it because there was no way to wheel lift or short chain it. The rollback would have had to drag it on the deck causing more damage. Highway Patrol said to just get it outta there being that we were in the center against the wall I wasnt going to argue, so no working pics sorry. Chris G.

I disagree with towman33 statement. In this case i think it was the 'ONLY' smart damage free way to tow this car. I would have done the same
thing..........I was wondering how towman33 would have done it, he failed to give us his method.........

personally i would have tow barred it. but i dont have a sling on my truck... lol great job your method looks great.

I would drop a sling on that in a second....
though I have also drop the cross bar and stiff barred them as well...... |

good job.....sounds like there was no other way but sling it.....then again i have always said one has got to know how to sling and second get the scene
cleared as soon as pos. for safety
If I could remember why I started towing, I might just remember why I sould stop!

Sometimes in a case like this, "DAMAGE FREE TOWING" means not damaging YOUR tow truck. If the vehicle is an obvious total, I'd rather use the
method that is best to protect my expensive equipment. I concur with Rod, I'd also have used my sling in a minute! Why damage your flatbed?

One of many acceptable methods to transport the casualty. I couldn't do it that as I have no equipment with a sling on it. Would have towed with the
stinger if I had to, but 99.8% we would transport that casualty on a carrier. But you did a fine job with it from what I can see.

I don't drive a sling I DRIVE a bed! here's an example motor club calls one guy a few weeks ago nissan altima missing a frnt pass side wheel I
can't do it he says I need a sling. so they give us a call show up jack the car 6x6 under the frame slide bed under rotor use a skate to prevent damage up
the bed she goes now have a cust for life and friendly word of mouth around town!!!!!!

Once I went into a wrecker I never wanted to be stuck in a rollback again. I can operate both very well but I like the versitillity of the wrecker. If I had to
go back into a rollback for a few days that would be ok but not forever. Thanks for looking everyone.

I'd probably went for a flatbed, jacked it up, and slid some dollies under the lowest parts.
As for slinging, it looks like a good pick, to me. My only question, is what did you chain to, if the front cradle is ripped loose? My first instinct is to go back to the t-slots, so the chains are under anything that might try to drop out. Tom @ Augie's Repair & Towing, Hays, KS |

Jack it up, put a kids plastic snow saucer under the broken suspention parts and winch it up the bed. It will slide right off as well.

I agree with TTO UT, wheel lifts are the way to go. I've responded to accidents in the flat beds,
found a scenario like the lancer, and turned around to get my truck. While it could probably be done damage free in a bed, I'm much better with a wheel lift. In the time it takes someone to drag the car up there and try to force it off, i can be picked up, dropped off, and done the paperwork. Just my opinion and what i was raised on. |

I did hook to the T-slots. I had the owner of the car call the other day and thank us for doing it quickly. He also said that the insurance co. totaled it
anyways so he really didn't care that we slung it.

no need to explain, its not problematic. you got the job done. us fellow wreckers would have done the same thing, i just would have used my bar, i have no
sling. but same deal.
