Semi Drives Through the Dairy Queen ( Part 1 ) |
Lead | ||
|
Started off the Morning with a Cup of Coffee & over the Scanner I hear " Please Respond to the Dairy Queen on Broad Street where a Semo Tractor
Trailer has Gone Through the Building " WELL, That opens up your Eyes ! Almost Two Hours Later We get the Call from the Highway Patrol asking for 2
Class C Wreckers ...... Upon Arrival we found the Truck Sticking out of the East Side of the Building & The Trailer Sitting Inside the Building and the
Roof of the Front half of the Building Sitting on top of the Trailer. We were given Permission to Enter the Building to Inspect things & told that the
Power to the Building had been Cut off. We Set the Peterbilt up to Winch it out and the Kenworth on the Back side of the T/T where we ended up Having to Winch
a Section of the Roof off of the Trailer before we finished getting it out of the Building. The Customer had Brought his Own Wrecker to the Scene but broke a
Tie Rod End on it and was put out of service. So, We Towed the Tractor around the Corner to a Vacant Lot where his Wrecker was at, He sent another one of
his Tractors to get the Trailer & We ended up Replacing the Tow Rod for him so he could Tow his Wrecked Tractor back Home. Total Time was under 2 Hrs.
Enclosed are some Pics. of the Wreck & a Link to the Local Station's Video & Nashville's Channel 4 News who also Covered the Accident.

Man that is some devistation. If that was in our area there would be no "Customer Request for a Tow" That unit would have been impounded for a level
1 DOT inspection.
Very nice job considering the conditions. One question, Did you contemplate getting an excavator in there to remove the roof before recovering the unit? |

Jamie, I did ask about getting a Track Hoe to Hold the Roof up until we Winched the unit our, but the Owner of the Truck wanted to Try it this way to save on
$$$ - He paid for the Recovery out of his own Pocket ( Liability Ins. on the T/T Only ). So That is why i pulled it out like this ..... Used the Second Wrecker
to Winch Part of the Roof off the Trailer. The Driver claims he Blacked out ( @ 2 Miles before this spot ) and doesn't Remember anything. Dairy Queen was
Closed at the Time, Suzie's Diner Next door is Closed every Monday = He got Really Lucky not to have hit anyone elses Car's or to have Killed anyone
