What I don't get is why doesn't the Public Works Dept. have to clean these things up. We tow cars and trucks not debris. I understand if you get called
you must go but don't we pay taxes for this stuff? Just curious

Sounds like you guys are suckers. They called us for a dead horse once. We told them it was animal controls job to deal with that. We offered to load it on
THEIR vehicle but amazingly enough they had a crane built right in cause that's what they do....Come on boys, say no when you need to. Get some bXXXs.

Got the early a.m. call once for an electric wheelchair involved in a slow speed chase , down the wrong side of the highway , operator drunk . They actually
did the box in maneuver to stop the chase, and the guy fought with them the entire time they tried to arrest him . Never came back for it, although we lost it
in a flood at the shop.
Gods honest truth , I have pictures of it on the rollback . To answer the question of how to get paid, wait the alotted time you have to wait for the release, and to the scrap yard I would go !!!! That crane looks great , and an awesome recovery tool !

We were called for a load shift and when our wrecker got there the operator called the boss and said it is a trailer load of old transformers but no trailer
and no truck. The boss called the state back and said we would not do it. They were over an embankment .It took the state a few days to get them out of there.
NOT OUR PROBLEM. Sorry but I wont work for free. and niether will they.

wow..now after reading all the posts about what towers have been called out to pick up, i dont feel so bad that im left with scrap metal$$$. its funny the
different things we come across in this business. the only thing i dont agree with is its not that smart to say NO when they call us to recover a miscellaneous
item. the reason i dont believe in that is because if i dont do it, my competition will, and ultimately that wont make us look good. furthermore, i also
believe that even though you wont get paid for doing this type of work you still win by earning the police's respect and admiration...and remember our job
in this industry is to clear the roadways!!!

Don't they have a road maintenance contractor? It usually is in there contract to keep the roads clear of debris like that.

Very well put Charlie! I agree take the good with the bad! We have impounded numerous bicylces, mini scooters, double wide trailers for Las Vegas Metro. if we didn't others will just to get there foot in the door. A load of metal like Charlie had will at least pay in the end by sending it to the recyclers. Good job Charlie , no wonder you handle all of Baldwin park C.H.P.! |

I take every call that comes in. Some aren't as beneficial as others, but I feel the same way about competition sliding in if I don't do it. I'm
the only 411 voice in our area, and sometimes I wonder if the other companies around feed off of it. But this is a great place to make friends and gain
knowledge. And then when you see someone else, they always want to know why we received that call?
