This happened January 1, 1947 on U.S. 17-92 just north of Sanford, Florida. The highway parallels Lake Monroe for about three miles and over the years many cars and trucks were fished out of the drink by our business. There is a concrete seawall that complicates recoveries. The driver missed the curve in the road and went straight into the lake. He then left the scene, and did not turn up until the next day.
Mack bulldog!
They first brought the tractor over.

My great uncle (now 85 years old) at the controls.

Wouldn't hurt to tether the W-35 to something, just in case....
Funny how they didn't worry about all those spectators being in harm's way if a cable snapped.

They didn't have rotators or fancy equipment in those days. Had to depend on ingenuity. What they did was place timbers at a 45 degree angle and then use them as skids to drag the trailer back up.
