I think the wheel-lift from the MLP-40 Auto loader would be a really nice option on a carrier.
Kind of like how Miller uses the Autogrip-II that originated on Chevrons.

I wonder if Jerr-dan will ever have an option to
get a self loading wheel-lift on a rollback?

I could have sworn that at one of the shows
Baltimore or Florida, they had one. It had the claws from
the QP40, but they folded up so they didnt stick out.
Maybe somebody else has some more ifno.

What's up with Jerr-dan not telling anyone about
these things (update the website). If it wasn't for this
site and tow shows I wouldn't know about half the things
they sell.

Just going into production | #5 | ||
|
Jerr-Dan has informed me that the auto grid style
wheel-lift is just going into the production stage. The
one's supplied in the past were prototypes, field test
and pre-production versions. The design has been very
refined and perfected since the proto debut in Baltimore
last year. Notice Also that it has Jerr-Dan's patented
Zero Degree system which makes it the most versatile one
out there.
Hope this helps. |

Not bad at all. Are the controld outside like the
Dynamics or do they make an in-the cab style? Also, has
anybody ever custom made a Miller Bed with a JD
Wheel-lift?

Carrier Grid Info | #8 | ||
|
The Grid Controls are on the Dual Control Stations
outside the truck with all the others. I am not sure of
the plans for inside controls. Also note that the entire
carrier and grid (about 30 former grease locations) are
lube-free (composite bearing) joints which you can't beat
for maintenance. Other discussion groups and full
exposure in the market have shown it to be an extremely
reliable low maintenance system.

That is exactly what I want on my next Jerr-dan
flatbed. I was almost considering a Century just because
of the Autogrip-II. Now Jerr-dan offers their own, great.
Thanks for the pics.

I would like to see it after 4 or 5 years of use.
Just like the early Jerr-Dan self loader(Jerr-Lift)? Too
many moving parts.

I'm not familar with a Jerr Lift as an Auto Load.
All I've ever know them by is Power Grid and I can't say
that after 5 years those were torn up greatly. Wear and
tear they are going to get, abuse they are going to see.
As for such a system on a carrier it isn't going to see
the same sort of tows as on a standard tow truck. I would
think one would have to have a true need for an autoload
in this application or it's just a novelty. Either way
it's good to know manufacturers offer such
options.

This is the same head as the MPL40 & the
Quick-Pick. Notice there are no grease fittings-it is
greaseless. Not even close to the Jerr-lift, or the
powergrid. With the Z.O.D. wheellift option, the unit
lays flat on the ground offering true low clearance, on
low clearance vehicles. The armsalso fold in so you don't
have to worry about L-arms, or putting pieces together to
work the wheellift.

does anybody know how much more this option adds over the standard L arm wheellift?

I had the original autoloader wheellift carrier mounted on a Topkick from Baltimore 2006. It was sold to a body shop in Clinton, IA. We have one
built on a M2 sitting on our lot. They work very well and is something that anyone doing transport work should look into. As for the cost I think it adds
around $4,500 but don't hold me to it., my price book is at the office. To see the M2 go to Summittow.com and search for Stock# 93271JD.

That head/grid system would be nice in place of my epg-35 system. How many hoses/valves does it take to run it? Do you guys think it would work o.k. without
tilt?
