Posts: 67 05/02/2008 12:18	Tags : None Well I have tried my dealer and I tried to call Jerr-Dan. Now I will try Tow 411. The problem I'm having is with the bed cross members rotting on my 2003 international 4300 Jerr-Dan 21 ft B.I.C . I called my local dealer (twice) for a price on a new bed this was about three months ago,still no call back. Will never call him again. Then did some looking around on Tow 411 and found others having the same problem.So i then called Jerr-Dan and left 2 messages that was about 2 months ago. Well now I've been looking into rebuilding the bed I have .I'm looking for some input or any suggestions anyone might have .Now dont get me wrong I'm not blaming jerr-dan I'm in the north east and everything rusts .I'm not even sure I left the message for the right person.That said the dealer never returns call so I'm sure he's in control of his company destiny.Thank you for taking the time to read this.I would like to thank the dealers that support this site when it is time for a new truck it will be from one of them instead of the local guy. Honest question simply because our problems are way past the "rust" issue. I have a car with the clear coat/base coat finish. Whatever they are using on the roads (it is no longer salt) is not just eating steel. It actually ate thru half of my cars upper clear coat finish. And the aluminum is only doing slightly better than steel. Copper - the wiring for tail lights on trailers are being eaten one to two inches into the insulation. Once the oxides and sulfides that they are spreading on the roads gets a fingernails hold on anything metal it is game over. We see all brands here in the Chicago area - and as long as they are made of materials found on this planet they will corrode. It is that blanket statement of "buy another brand" that indicates to me a slight bash all by itself..... BTW on any brand of carrier there is something you can do to help out. Install fenders over the rear wheels. Plastic are best. You need to keep that brine spray down..... Experience is something you normally get right after you need it.......

Like previously stated, there isn't much that can be done. Jerr-Dan uses a rust deterrent coating on their steel now, Miller has their galvanized coating on the sub frames, I'm sure others are dealing with it in their own ways as well. This is why my new unit, I went back to aluminum. I will probably always have a steel bed around as well but this truck is going to be a primary mover. The best way that I have thought of to minimise the rust issue.....trade the truck every three years! Thanks, Ed

Posts: 62 05/06/2008 06:44	Jim I also Echo others comments on your dealers lack of help, its sad that are so called local dealers feel they have our buss wrapped up and in the bag why they become so displacent is beyond me. Doug From Danzi proved has iam sure many Dealers here on Tow411 can and do make things happen. I can only speak for Doug but the man put together a long awaited Sterling in about 29 days has promised yup i might me in MI and he in DE but i know in the future the miles mean nothing to have him build another truck for my company . This site is so valuable to us has owners of Towing companys from getting reslove to getting trucks built the site is priceless. Good luck with your issues and i can attest you have a great person going to bat for you along with many others here...

Thanks to this site I have been contacted by a Jerr-Dan rep. That to me shows how much of an impact this site has. In response to DJ, I don't believe switching to another manufacturer is the answer. I believe as long as you react reasonably with the manufacturer, they will assist you in whatever the dilemma is. Jerr-Dan has warrantied issues with me that were on trucks well past the warranty period on a case by case situation. They have always been stand up people to me. Doug, you get an "ataboy"......
