on a light duty winching job how many of you who have automatic trans put the truck in park and how many put it in neutral with emergancy brake on?

Always in park with the air brakes on.....unless I'm winching the truck under something!!

I was always told to never winch in park for fear of breaking the parking paw
Had a driver at my old employer who actually did this also had one that after all was said and done he couldnt get the truck out of park. Went to dealer and they said the truck wasnt covered under warranty because we used it wrong |

If the parking pawl broke, then the emergency brake was not functioning properly. If the brake is working properly, there would be no strain on the pawl at
all.

mine is a standard but always use the micro lock and ussually chock a wheel

Mirco lock or stiff leg or both. never winch against the parking brake on light duty automatic it will break the pawl. Have seen it done

My only automatic is my rollback so I usually just put it in park and put the bed on the ground. If I think it is gonna be a heavy / hard recovery for the
truck ie.. suburban, F-250 etc.. I will put the truck in N then set the brake then put truck back in Park plus set bed ....HARD.

Always in park with e brake and wheel lift down! I you do it in neutral the e brake could fail then you in a shit load of problems!

One our frieghtliner FL60's at Great West Towing & Recovery in Kingman, Az. is a automatic alisson tranny and has no park setting so we use neutral and
we dont have any problems shes a beast and we take her off road recovering all the time. park neutral whats the differance guys just winch it in and collect
you MONEY!!!!

In a rollback, in park with e-brake set, and bed on the ground hard. In light, med duty I use Scotch blocks with e-brake set!

My trucks do not have park? Set the brakes and when nessary block or chock the wheels.
