I have two chevy 6.5 turbo diesels that I have mantained and serviced , they may have a bad rep. but when you dont abuse them they work just fine . one is a wheel lift the other is a 19 ft. chevron flatbed

I Wish Chevy Still Made The Real 3500 HD With The 15,000 GVW & The 19.5 Tires. I Always Had A Chevy Fleet With the 6.5 Turbo. I Always Maintained The Hell Out Of Them & I Never Had A Real Problem Besides The Injector Pumps. Every Truck Had Well Over 200,000 + And An Idiot Can Fix A Chevy. 2002 Was The Last Year For The HD. I love my 08 Chevy 3500 HD - Mine is a ext cab chassis, added the airbags in back, works great. steady 12mpg no matter what.

30k out of a set of tires in S. Fla isnt bad at all. I would imagine the 16" tires are cheaper than the 19.5's.

I own (3) brand new 08's, all have the LMM engine with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) exhaust system. They have a noticeable drop in fuel economy over the previous engine duramax's (LBZ). I had a few LLY/LBZ trucks previously My 08's get 10 mpg on a good day, 6-8 when loaded up. I have 2 dually 3500 pickups for pulling wedge trailers, and the 08 3500 with Jerr-Dan HPL-35.

We added #2500 overloads and with those they tow well.Average mileage around 12 MPG,10 MPG towaways only in town,16 MPG highway only.We have two 2008 HD3500's they come with 17'' tires and they work well.Overall we wouldn't have anything else.Rick

Ours has been doing really well, the driver has nothing but good things to say about it. We also put timbrens on the trucks so we really don't have the squating very much its also a 84 ca.

I have sold several of the Duramax 3500 in the Portland market. I hear a consistent 13mpg no matter the load, or how hard the truck is driven. The engines & trannys hold up well, there have been a few injector & fuel rail issues, but nothing compared to a 6.0 I sure wish GM would step up the chassis to a 14,500 gvw. Currently it is only available as a one ton.

Do they offer the 3500HD with 19.5s now or no? Can I upgrade them myself with minimal problems? That mpg is that city or highway?

We have an '06 3500 with the diesel and 6 spd, 60ca, Renegade unit. Gets 12mpg average. Odom sitting right around 100k. Troubles so far have been an alternator at 75k and a rear end at 90k. Locker locked itself and grenaded.
The motor / trans / interior is great. The rear suspension on the other hand is very poor. Squats like crazy, even with a Honda on the hook.
Another thing is 16" wheels, tires wear out quite quickly. Getting about 30k out of a set.

Been throwing he idea of building a 3500HD diesel auto with an autoloader to be chosen at some point. Does anybody have any real world fuel mileages? Mostly city driving doing tow-aways..very little highway. Had an experience in 2000 or 2001 that was unfavorable with Chevy self loader. Seeing if they've changed. Thank you for the information!
