Looking for a simple unit with not too many pieces as storage is limited. Has anyone build their own or know a supplier? The only one I know of is Condor http://www.condor-lift.com/index.asp it has some larger pieces and you have to remove the sliders. Maybe something that utilizes the L bars.

When you guys are doing a recovery on the side of the roads and the car gets to the flatbed, what comes next? Do you have to pull ahead, then winch it with the winch on the deck??? I see alot of photos of pulling a car on a 90 degree angle up a hill with the car up to the truck..Thats it..Then what, how do you finish the job??? With 1 truck....Thanks..Just looking for some input and pics....

Just a reminder- change that winch oil, its cheap insurance. I've had real good luck with 80-140 synthetic. I'm not a syn-nut but it stays thin in the cold and thick in the hot.

Hey guys, i'm ordering up a new sterling and i'm not sure who to have build my wrecker. If you had a choice would it be chevron out of mercer, PA or chevron commercial out of highland IL. Just wanted to send a big thanks to Reed & Hoppes towing equipment ( Portland Mi). On Labor day weekend, late Friday night I had a part failure on my wrecker. I took an old truck to the scrapper today so I had an opportunity to weigh my 12-ton for the first time. The front axle was 8420 and the rear was 9460, with a total of 17,880, and my wheelbase is 216". My underlift, in the full up position and retracted, is 66.5" from the center of my rear axle, and fully extended, is 93". I plugged this information into the Maximum Lifted Load formula and I get 13,675 retracted and 9778 fully extended.

Guys ive been talkin to my dad and we have been tossing around the idea of buying a wrecker in your opinions what size should we go with? 12-14 Ton or a 16Ton my biggest problem with the 16ton is that not anyone can drive it and id also have to go get a CDL but i know i could then tow bigger stuff im looking for a truck to tow box trucks and School Buses and still do cars and be decent for recovery any ideas out there??

I build a lot of trucks as a rule and I have a question for those who are more expirienced. I recently agreed to build a heavy wrecker on a 1984 Autocar
Construcktor chassis. The unit has a 290hp cummins with an 8LL, 20k frt with floats, 58k rears on hendrickson walking beam, and 12 r 24.5 tires. In my
experiences I have seen, this type of rear suspension requires the use of Timbrens on the rear most axle to keep the front on the ground under load. What do

I get past miller a few times a week so I get to see most of the new trucks at the factory. They have a nice raised display area that they park the new trucks on. As I was going by today I noticed a nice new KW with a Rotator. Given the color scheme , I can assume its heading to florida. Hope you enjoy it.
